Operator Certification Program

Florida Statutes require anyone who operates a drinking water treatment plant or a domestic wastewater treatment plant in Florida to be licensed by the DEP. To qualify for licensure an applicant must meet minimum educational and work experience requirements for each class of license. A passing score on the exam for the type and level license desired by the applicant must also be obtained.

*Special Information*

OCP is now accepting applications for Distribution System Operator Examinations. In addition to distribution system examinations, the OCP is also accepting and processing applications for Distribution System Operator Licensure for those who have completed an approved training course before October 15, 2007.  If you have not completed an approved training course before October 15, 2007, you will need to start the process by reading the distribution system examination information above.

The Operator Certification Program (OCP) is pleased to inform you of recent changes that have been made to our examination and test administration processes. From this point forward, all examinations will be administered via computer instead of pencil and paper. This means that the paper & pencil examination that was scheduled for August 29, 2008 will no longer take place. All previously approved candidates for the August 29, 2008 may now schedule their exam at their leisure on a date, time and location convenient to them. All approval letters, with detailed information, have been mailed to those candidates on July 25, 2008. Read more...

As of October 15, 2007 the revisions to rules 62-602 and 62-699 are now in effect. As many of you know, the DEP has been in the process of revising theses rules for the last few years. The major thrust behind this revision was to implement a new licensure category for Water Distribution System Operators. This new license is mandated by the EPA.
